A scarce copy of a delightful publication from 1950.
The chapters cover: Silver Designers at Work in Britain Today, Design in Tea & Coffee Services, The Relationship Between Design and Manufacture, Gem-Set Jewellery Motifs, World of the Small Worker, Styles in Costume Jewellery, New Methods & Techniques, Jewellery & the Wearer. The book deals with problems of contemporary design in all branches of gold, silver and jewellery industries.
The illustration (Compacts by Stratton Vanities, top one with marcasite flowers) is from page 94, one of many illustrations in monochrome. The dust jacket is beige with red lettering. Although chipped on all edges, with areas of loss on the top edge, it remains mostly intact. The book is bound in vivid red leatherette with gilt lettering, all text is clear and the photographic illustrations, several in wonderful 1950 colour, greatly enhance the book, which is in very good condition.
