Blue Peter : The Inside Story.

£6.99

Product description

BLUE PETER is more than a television programme, it is a national institution. Its phrases are part of the English language. Here's one / made earlier and Now for something quite different are everyday expressions, and everybody knows where they came from. For thirty years the programme has been part of the lives of the children of Great Britain and you can make a good guess at the age of most adults by which pets and presenters they remember. BLUE PETER has been recorded in Hansard, sung about in the charts and has rubbed shoulders with Royalty. Like every other institution, it has been praised to the skies one minute and rubbished the next. This is the story of how it rose from a modest under-funded, unpretentious programme to become a household name. It is a story of triumphs and disasters, good times and bad, involving sixteen presenters and TV's most famous pets. It explains for the first time the philosophy of a programme that has set the standard by which children's television is judged. Biddy Baxter was the programme's Editor for twenty-six years and Edward Barnes was a Blue Peter director and producer before he became Head of BBC TV Children's Programmes. Together they laid the foundations for the programme that has won twenty-one major awards, raised millions of pounds for charity and brought fame to presenters such as Valerie Singleton, John Noakes, Peter Duncan and Sarah Greene. In front of the camera and behind the scenes, this is the story of Blue Peter.

In very good condition. There are some marks, some minor rubbing to the dust jacket edges and a small tear on the rear cover. Not price clipped. Lavishly illustrated with photgrpahs

Oxfam Bookshop Hexham

We relocated in January 2016 to larger premises and are now able to offer a wider range of books and music (you can come and check out your musical choices in our listening booth and also find out a lot more about Oxfam's work.). We have a new local interest section, more space for history and have extended our craft and arts offer.  We also sell cards, fair trade food and ethical cleaning and beauty products.

Hexham is a market town situated in the beautiful Tyne Valley - the ideal stopping off point before exploring Hadrian's Wall, Chesters, Housesteads and the Temple of Mithras at Carrawburgh.
