Every Song Tells A Story

£14.99

Product description

This book is in very good condition with just the corners turned up very slightly. The book includes black and white photos. The book has been signed by the author, Mike Hurst.

Mike Hurst, a member of top 1960s group The Springfields and successful record producer of Cat Stevens, Marc Bolan, the Four Tops and many others, tells the story of popular music from 16th century minstrels to modern pop music. How folk music from the Middle Ages was transported by the early settlers to the New World where its echoes can still be heard in Nashville today and how the arrival of black African slaves who embraced Christianity gave us spirituals and subsequently gospel, soul, rhythm and blues and rap. How the syncopation of ragtime, eastern European immigrants and military bands brought us jazz, rock n'roll and dance music. Rich in history and cultural development, it is a story of racial divides coming together in a truly colour blind medium, music.
