Although not yet widely known, Terence Hards's poems have attracted the attention of discerning critics from the time he published his first short collection in 1952. 'As it Was' contains a selection from this and from the poems Mr. Hards has written up to the date of publication. They appeared from time to time in periodicals and anthologies such as The Times Literary Supplement, New World Writing and the P.E.N. Club's annual New Poems.
