Published in 1939 by John Grant, Edinburgh, described as a new and revised edition.
Subtitle: 'Comprising 14,000 Idioms, Proverbs, Maxims Mottoes, Technical Words and Terms, and Press Allusions from the Works of the Great Writers in Latin, French, Italian, Greek, German, Spanish & Portuguese'.
Alphabetically arranged with English translations and equivalents. Edited with notes by Hugh Percy Jones. A fascinating and useful book.
In pretty good condition overall. The corners of the dark green boards are a little bumped, the spine strip has some sun-fading and a couple of small tears at the top. The pages have a few foxing spots, however they are generally clean albeit a little yellowed. The binding is sound.
