Old English Ballads and Folk Songs

£18.99

Product description

The old English ballads and folk songs were selected and edited by William Dallam Armes, who was Assistant Professor of English Literature at the University of California. This collection was published by MacMillan, in both New York and London, as part of their Pocket Classic Series.

Besides the famous ballads, there are notes and a glossary at the back. There is an engraving of Chevy Chase near the front and others throughout to illustrate the ballads.

The boards and spine are in dark brown cloth. The front board is embossed with a plain design and the title and publisher in gold. The spine has just the title embossed in gold. Board edges and corners are good, showing some shelf wear. On the front endpiece, the previous owner has written their full name in ink. The edges of the pages are slightly faded and marked. Unfortunately, there is some annotation of the text in ink, while others are in pencil. The hinges and end pieces are strong and the pages are tight. So, despite some marking, the condition is good.
