Period of Adjustment: High Point over a cavern

Product description

A Serious Comedy by Tennessee Williams.

"Mr Williams's latest play shows a little known facet of his great talents. For though there is an underlying seriousness in this play about the marital troubles of two young couples, the prevailing mood is one of comedy. As one critic wrote when the play opened on Broadway last year: 'While there are serious aspects to the plot, it is the laugh-packed situations and witty dialogue which win the audience. The playwright is still concerned with human foibles and frustrations, but from a different angle than in his previous plays. There is a new warmth in his approach.' "

The setting for this play is Christmas Eve and tells the gentle, light-hearted story of two couples, one newlywed and the other married for five years, both experiencing pains and difficulties in their relationships. The two male characters are veterans of the Korean War. The younger of the two experiences post traumatic stress, while the older man suffers from feelings of inadequacy towards his wife, the daughter of his boss. However, the observance of each other’s troubles brings both couple to realize what they have and to reconcile their own relationships.

This book is in good overall condition for its age. The dustjacket has been covered by a plastic cover to protect it. The sellotape used to seal this has discoloured and left marks on the front and back endpapers.
