Poems selected by Patric Dickinson from the second half of the 19th century up to to the Great War, illustrated with 12 colour lithographs by William Scott. Includes poems by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Walt Witman, Herman Melville, Robert Frost, Edward Thomas, Thomas Love Peacock, Ursula Wood, William Wordsworth, W. H. Auden, Dylan Thomas, Stephen Spender, et al. The book boards have the same illustration as the jacket; the cover edges are browned and soiled, noticeably on the white areas and down the spine; corners are bumped; tanning and light foxing spots to text block edges; end papers and a few front and rear leaves have foxing marks. Former owner's name with date 28th Aug. '50 written in grey ink to the top of the front free end paper. The paper jacket has general wear and soil marks, and has suffered wear with small edge tears and tears and chips to all corners and spine ends; browned down the spine, which has a tear approx. 10cm on the lower left side. A 1945 first edition, one if the 'New Excursions into English Poetry' series.
