This is a rare collection of essays arising from Tolkien's work in mediaeval literature, covering a period of thirty years in his career. Essays on medieval language and literature including a fascinating piece on invented languages. Two essays are on Beowulf, one on Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, and one a paper on invented languages, using examples from poems written in Elvish.

In very good condition. There is a small 2cm tear at the top of the spine on the unclipped dust jacket, which is also yellowed on its inside top edge. Dark blue boards and text pages are all in excellent condition throughout. Binding tight.
