This edition in 12 volumes contains older prints, dated 1798 and 1799. Vol 1: Some Account of the Life &c. of William Shakespeare, written by Mr. Rowe (as in Rowe's second edition, abridged after its appearance in 1709); Dr. Johnson's Preface; Essay on the Learning of Shakespeare by Farmer; The Tempest printed from Mr. Steeven's last edition, Harding 1798; Two Gentlemen of Verona 1799. Contains cxl + 74+ 76 pages. With b/w plates with engravings by Ridley, Gardiner, S. Lothard, Hopwood. Vol 2: Merry wives of Windsor, The Twelfth Night, Measure for Measure, Much a do, 96 + 86 + 96 + 87 pages. Vol 4 and 5 have engravings by Thurston. Vol 7 by Satchwell and Porter. All 12 volumes have their original binding in leather with gilt motives along the borders of both front and back covers, and marbled endpapers. The spine is generally on good condition, but the numbers in a small round attached below the title are all missing but those of volumes 4,6,8. Vol 3 has a very worn spine. Vol 5 has a lightly damaged spine, with small bits (0.3" and 0.5") missing on both ends, and a paper label glued on the front cover. Vol 6 has bit missing from the upper edge of the spine, 1/2" wide and 0.2" high. Vol 11 has two pages half loose from the gathering with letter "H", at the end of the book, after a plate. All volumes have corners bumped in various degrees. In good condition overall

One of the largest bookshops in the Oxfam network, Reading Books has more than 5000 different titles in the shop at all times. We have unusually large sections in science fiction and fantasy, literature, history, travel, children's, business and the sciences. There is plenty of space for browsing and a couple of chairs for customers who wish to inspect books more closely. We also have a catalogue of about 1000 collectable books that are kept in the backroom, and these can be brought out for customers to view on request.
