Front is embossed in black design, with two gilt panels, with larger containing 'BURNS', and the smaller containing 'ILLUSTRATED'. Similar effect to spine. Spine is darkened, and has bumping to the ends. Back cover is also embossed, but no colours, and is lighter. Covers are bevelled. Illustrated by Sir John Gilbert. All three edges are bright gilt. Preface. Contents and Glossary Alphabetically Arranged. A 63 page biography is followed by the poems. Brown end papers. School prize bookplate on inside front cover dated 1876.
