A very attractive pocket sized edition of the poems of Omar Khayyam, bound in pale brown suede with a gilt title and vignette on the front and Omar Khayyam in gilt on the spine. The book is undated and no translator's or illustrator's names are given, but the translations printed are those by Edward Fitzgerald (1809 - 1883). There are 75 poems, or "quatrains". Each page is embellished with a pale gold design and there are several pasted in colour illustrations. The book has some age toning and there is slight curling to the card covers; rubbing wear to spine ends; closed tear approx. 5mm to the top of the spine; foxing on the text block edges. The ribbon place marker is still attached. The front free end paper has a neatly written dediction reading "To Gertrude. With very kindest wishes on the attainment of her majority from Arnold".
