The Writings of J. M. Synge

£6.99

Product description

"Nineteen seventy one marks the centennial celebration of the birth of John Millington Synge, Irish poet and dramatist. Now, Professor Robin Skelton, foremost Synge expert and an authority on the Irish literary renaissance, has produced the first full-length critical study of all Synge's writings. Paying particular attention to newly discovered works, he has made use of Synge's worksheets and drafts in order to detect underlying themes in both the drama and the prose. His research has led him to present a totally new view of Synge's prose work, 'The Aran Islands', and to challenge many accepted opinions concerning 'Riders to the Sea', 'The Tinkers Wedding', 'The Well of the Saints', and 'The Playboy of the Western World'. A particularly interesting feature of the book is its analysis of the debt which Synge owed to Yeats and vice-versa."

Book pages are unmarked and in very good condition. There is a small owners stamp on the front inside cover.
The dustcover is in good condition but with some wear at the edges. It is not price-clipped.
The green hardback cover is in very good condition with gold lettering on the spine.
