3) West Cumberland Trunk Road Study. January 1972. Commissioned by the Countryside Commission, Lake District Planning Board, in anticipation of a public enquiry, into the proposals of the Department of the Environment, to improve the Workington-Cockermouth-Keswick-Penrith A66 route.
4) Pleasure Traffic and Recreation in the Lake District. A research report based on a 1960's survey of weekend motorists. Extends and gives further details of the survey findings summarised in "The weekend motorist in the Lake District" published by HMSO in 1969. This by the Countryside Commission , British Tourist Authority.
All in good to very good condition. Many maps, sketches, tables,b/w photos.
Now of social and local historical interest, since these reports, particularly the A66 ones, are at the centre of some of the most controversial and hard fought battles over town/country planning of the 20th. century.
