Armorial General

£80.00

Product description

Johannes Baptista Rietstap, a Dutch heraldist and genealogist, is most well known for his publication of the Armorial Général. Containing the coats of arms and blazons of more than 130,000 European families, this monumental work is one of the most complete works of its kind. There are two substantial volumes, in French, reproduced from the second editions of 1884 and 1887. The books are soundly bound in blue cloth, with gilt titles. The covers have some noticeable dark handling marks, and light wear along edges and to corners; spine ends bumped; foxing spots and some dust soiling on text block edges. Inside pages are clean and bright. There are some pencil crosses in the ‘M’ section of volume two at the top of pages 122 to155, between which a number of pages have been bound out of order. Heavy item with courier delivery.
