Forests in the Czech Republic

£4.99

Product description

“Forests in the Czech Republic” was written by a team of authors as part of the “Nature in the Czech Republic” series. The book contains many excellent photographs, maps and comment.

Extract from the Preface:

Forests are ecosystems which encompass soil, plants (particularly trees) and animals. Viewed from a human perspective, they fulfil a number of functions which may be divided into three spheres – economic, environmental and social. The general public tends to view forests as homogeneous formations but the reality is different. Every forest fulfils all three functions concurrently but one of these functions tends to be dominant within it.

Most state-owned forests in the Czech Republic are managed by Forests of the Czech Republic, State Enterprise. The company’s key objective is to harmonise the production function with all the non-producing forest functions. In order to safeguard the provision of these public-interest aims, particularly in the area of non-producing forest functions, the company adopted “Programme 2000” in 1999 and spends dozens of millions of crowns every year to meet its objectives.

The fact that the company funded publication of this book only shows that it does not fail to address public education. We trust that the book will help enhance the general awareness of forests and methods of forest management. We would like to wish you pleasant moments spent reading this book, as well as joy over learning new things.
