Northumberland Families: Volume One

£89.99

Product description

The author, W. Percy Hedley, states that the purpose of this work is threefold: 1. to consider the origins and early establishment of all families that can rightfully be called Northumberland families; 2. to trace the vicissitudes of these families from the earliest times either to recent times or to when the family surname died out; 3. to connect to the main stem as many as possible of the cadet branches of the family. The volume is

Published in 1968 by the Society Of Antiquaries, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, this rare first edition is in a reasonable condition overall but is without its dustjacket. It is an ex-library copy with the label removed from the front end-paper. It is bound in plain black boards. There are a few spots and marks on the covers, front and back. The page block is yellowing, spotted in parts, and slightly indented, as if it has been damp at some point, but it is not very noticeable. There are also indentations made by paperclips at the top edge of the pages, particularly on the title page and page 3 where rusty marks have been left. Page 63 has had the bottom quarter ripped out. There is a comprehensive index, detailed genealogical trees throughout, and bibliographies for each section.

Oxfam Bookshop Hexham

We relocated in January 2016 to larger premises and are now able to offer a wider range of books and music (you can come and check out your musical choices in our listening booth and also find out a lot more about Oxfam's work.). We have a new local interest section, more space for history and have extended our craft and arts offer.  We also sell cards, fair trade food and ethical cleaning and beauty products.

Hexham is a market town situated in the beautiful Tyne Valley - the ideal stopping off point before exploring Hadrian's Wall, Chesters, Housesteads and the Temple of Mithras at Carrawburgh.
