The third book in a special edition series of 6 volumes of 'Our Own Country' in which it is proposed to describe some of the most interesting and important places in Great Britain. A regular topographical arrangement has not been attempted, believing that greater interest is to be obtained by a varied distribution of subjects. Each subject has been thoroughly treated, so far as space would allow, and illustrated. This "Descriptive, Historical, Pictorial" book contains articles on 20 areas of Great Britain, beginning with Norwich, ending with Sheffield. Each article has several illustrations and at the front of the volume there are 6 engraving plates, including the frontispiece, each with the tissue guard intact. At the front is a pasted-in slip bearing the words, "This Edition Is specially prepared for Subscription only, and is not obtainable through the general Booksellers". The volume is bound in red with embossed ornamentation and gilt titles. A central panel in gilt and red shows Stonehenge. The spine bears three gilt stars to indicate that this is the second volume. The cover has a range of general wear and soiling marks, with bumping and surface rubbing to corners and spine ends; text block edges are dust darkened and have some foxing spots; foxing has also affected front and rear leaves, including some of the engravings and tissue.
