Style Book and the Spelling of Words Adopted by The Times

£14.99

Product description

An internal publication for use by staff members, this copy is a revised edition dated 1953. A pocket volume covered in greyish buff card with the Times Masthead on the front. There is staining to the back cover and the paper spine is scuffed in places with a split towards the foot, text block edges are somewhat foxed and a little aged; however the interior is in very good condition for its age and all text pages are clear and tight.

An important reference guide for journalists, consulted in order to avoid elementary mistakes or cliché, uphold standards of "a philologically correct, unslovenly, and accurate English", perhaps these days also to avoid offence and possible litigation.
Examples include "Dumbarton, but Dunbartonshire", "different from, not to", and the correct terms of address for Royalty, the Military, Government posts etc.
