The Gentleman's Magazine Library Archaeology Part 2

£29.99

Product description

This is an exquisite copy of The Gentleman's Magazine Library, defined as "a classified collection of the chief contents of The Gentleman's Magazine from 1731 to 1868," published in 1886. This particular copy appears to have belonged to a John Ashmead Pruen, with our research suggesting that he may have been the sub-prior of the Knights Templar in 1917 for the Provincial Priory of Kent & Surrey.

For a book that is roughly 130 years of age, it is in good condition. It features a leather spine with dark blue/green boards. The spine is quite worn, but still wholly intact, and the gilt embossed titles and images on it are still very clear. The top edge of the pages is gilted, while the side and bottom are untrimmed - The two features typical of older books combined here make this rather a characterful artefact. There appears to have been some possible water damage to the very edges of the pages, as they have a slight ripple. The pages themselves are made from a thick slightly textured paper, and the binding is very good.

This would certainly be a worthwhile purchase for anyone hoping to complete their collection; sets of The Gentleman's Magazine that contain full volumes have previously sold at auction for as much as £8,000. Please note that this sale is for one book only; Archaeology Part II.
