A Newman companion to the Gospels: sermons of John Henry Newman / selected and schematically presented by Armel J Coupet

£10.99

Product description

Subjects: New Testament bible study.. Publication date: 1966. Book condition: Very good. The cover is in very good condition, with just a small bump at the bottom of the front cover. Internally, there are inked initials on the front end paper, but otherwise the book is clean, tight and unmarked. Content: "Had Newman written a life of Christ, it would almost certainly have become one of the classics of literature as well as of theology. Intuitive perception matched with learning and an impeccable style would have set it apart from all others. Here, in effect, are the makings of such a book. Newman poured all his genius into his sermons, ans Fr. Coupet's industry has rescued and connected comments on the life of Our Lord from volumes long since out of print and unobtainable. This book is for those who want to re-read the Gospels for themselves but helped by a master who has meditated on every passage. Here is Scripture seen in the light of tradition and theology in the light of prayer. The book is pure Newman, the editor's hand is to be seen only in the selection and ordering of the extracts from over 200 sermons. It is a testimony both to his industry and to Newman's integrity that such a wide-ranging choice forms a coherent and unified whole."
r's initals ,otherwise as new. Subject content: this book provides help for those to re-read the Gospels.
