About this item

The book weighs 3180grammes and measures 9.2x12.2"sq. and is printed on glossy paper with an unidentified typeface by grange Books under the auspices of Global Book Publishing Pty Ltd in 2003.

Beginning with a short essay on the intrinsic 'on' of myth it then dedicates two hundred pages (of a book with 528 pages and an Index of thirteen pages on the myths of the Greeks and Romans: there follows 82 pages on European myths (many of which are derived from Greek and Roman) and 48 pages on African and Egyptian myth - the stories of 'the other hand' as it were; the remaining pages of the book are unequally divided between Middle Eastern, Asian, Oceanian and American (North and South) myths - so the book is slightly unbalanced.

The twenty contributors are all well qualified in their fields and, in fact, their narratives together with the illustrations manage to make a new book about mythology - for example, Unicorn by Annibale Carracci (1560-1609) which illustrates the outset of the whole text is a pleasant and informative change from the Tapestries of the unicorn made in France: indeed, the paintings used make it a real contribution to the body of knowledge concerning mythology - but you have to be careful.

The copy is in very good condition and the dustjacket is protected by a plastic cover.
