Prayers Written at Vailima

£18.00

Product description

This book has cream cloth covered boards with the title and author's name (in green lettering) inset in a decorative rectangular plate on the front cover. A shortened version of the book's title is shown in green lettering on the spine. The book shows bumping to the corners and some shelf wear. The outer margins and edges to the boards show some browning probably due to exposure to sunlight. The endpapers are well glued to the boards and the spine. The pages are well glued to the spine. Both endpapers and pages shown signs of discoloration. The pages are uncut. The book has been constructed with a double-width page folded at the book edge and stitched into the spine. This results in two exposed pages per double leaf. These pages are illustrated with the prayers in gothic writing set in coloured monastic style settings. Some pages have only gothic written prayers in red script. The frontispiece has a portrait of the author (Robert Louis Stevenson) in a similar monastic style setting. This page has a 135 mm long tear near the spine, although this tear does not impact on the artwork. The rear endpaper has a perforated blue stamp indicating "R L Stevenson copyright".
