The Meaning of God

£6.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

"In the continuing dialogue between Western philosophy and the Christian religion, the central issue has frequently been the existence of God. Yet in recent years the focus of the discussion has shifted to the meaning of 'God'. This is a quite different discussion and a more basic one. For if it is meaningless to speak of God, the question of his existence or non-existence does not even arise. It is possible simply to dismiss this whole way of speaking. Drawing upon recent work in analytical theology, Dr King shows that it is possible to speak of God in a way that is both consistent with biblical tradition and congruent with our other ways of speaking. The insights of Wittgenstein, Ryle, Strawson and others are put to the service of systematic theology - with the result that we are given new understanding of our language about God and ourselves. The mystery of God remains, but as a mystery about which we can speaking responsibly and meaningfully."

Book in good condition, although the dust jacket and page edges are foxed due to age.
