The Nazarene Gospel: Being Part III (text only) of their Nazarene Gospel Restored

£60.00

Product description

Casell and Company, London, 1955, first separate publication, hardcover with d/w, pp xi + 175, tall octavo.

In November 1953, "The Nazarene Gospel Restored" was published, a volume of over one thousand pages in which Graves, an expert on the Graeco-Roman aspects of Christianity, and Podro, an expert on its Hebraeo-Aramaic aspects, sought to prove that the Four Gospels were Greek piracies from an authentic tradition, orally preserved in Aramaic by the Apostolic Church at Jerusalem. They set out to restore what they considered to have been the original Gospel current among Jesus' immediate Jewish followers, the Nazarenes. The work contained the text of that Gospel and this section of the book is here published separately.

The book is in very good- condition. Pages very slightly tanned but clean and unmarked. Small booksellers label and a few pencil marks to FPEP and very small tear to endpaper only of front hinge (binding tight). D/w darkened and slight rubbing to edges, not price clipped.

Oxfam Books & Music Jesmond

We are a specialist shop nestled in the heart of Jesmond, a lovely residential area of Newcastle Upon Tyne. We opened in July 2010 and have on offer 5,000 books, 2,000 records, CDs and games as well as sheet music, cards and stationery within the shop. Our shop has high ceilings and a nice, bright and airy feel. We are gaining a very good reputation in the Rare and Collectable books and vinyl community, but also do a roaring trade in contemporary fiction and modern non-fiction. We also organise live music and book events and aim to be a hub of culture in this wonderfully tight-knit community.
