The Pilgrim

£9.99

Product description

First Edition. London, Michael Joseph Ltd., 1964. 14cm x 22cm. 248 pages. Original hardcover with dustjacket. Excellent condition. Dust Jacket has small loss of colour front top due to removal of previous price label very small nick in front dust wrapper near spine and one inch tear to top rear dust wrapper Book is black board and has no noticeable faults
The central theme of this book can best be expressed by the question, what went wrong with Vatican Council II? At the two Council sessions held in Rome in 1962 and 1963, there was a sharp struggle between the progressive tendencies (the majority of the bishops) and the conservative forces (powerfully represented by the Roman curia). 'The Pilgrim' is an authoritative and candid analysis of Catholicism at the cross-roads. 'Michael Serafian' is the pseudonym of a diplomat whose career has brought him into contact with some of the great leaders, religious and political, of the last twenty-five years. The drama of the Council is related with an utter frankness and the author gives intimate disclosures of behind-the-scenes plans, conversations, deals, and arguments among various Vatican personalities. He contends that the crisis was resolved in a way that may prove to have been disastrous, in the long run, for the Church. [Adapted from publisher's note]
