A book produced to coincide with an exhibition at the Hayward Gallery in 1988. These rugs were very exclusive possessions of the elite in Tibet and used in their travels. They are very rare – there may be only some 200 in existence, their design and decoration is very remarkable.
Hayward paperback. Plain card cover with glossy DJ which is unclipped although there are creases in its free edges. There are 108 colour plates as well as many black and white pictures and four essays by experts examining the background and social significance of the rugs. Page edges lightly spotted & tanned, good binding & overall very good copy.
