An important figure for the spreading of Hinduism, Swami Abhedananda was a peripatetic yogi, a leader of the Vedanta Society, and a skilful orator. This edition contains 8 of his New York lectures in which he addresses many contemporary issues with equipose and enlightens as to the spiritual purpose of Vedanta - the culminating knowledge that humans have a divine nature which differs from their material self-identity, and that the realisation of this will bring us closer to Brahman or the universal divine nature. The 8 lectures in this volume are : Does the Soul Exist after Death?; The Relation of Soul to God; Who is the Saviour of Souls?; The Way to the Blessed Life; Divine Communion; Why a Hindu Accepts Christ but Rejects Churchianity; Woman's Place in Hindu Religion; The Motherhood of God. 147 pages with separate title pages, and Vedanta Society publications at the close of the book.
Book Condition : Very Good : green cloth hardback with gilded Vedanta Society colophon to front cover: slight bumping to cloth and very minor denting at corners of boards; some shelfwear along edges of cloth with occasional minor knock to rims; back cover has slight rubbing; front cover cloth is well preserved; gilding to front cover with virtually no wear, intact and bright; gilding at spine intact and clearly legible; a mild yellowing to inside pages; first three or four leaves have small creases to far lower right margin corners; very small old booksellers label to front inside pastedown; title page has purple stamp in lower right-hand corner; inside pages are otherwise in good order; binding is secure and sound.
