Pale blue cloth cover with black titles on the front cover and the spine. The dust jacket has a few small tears at the upper edge and one on the lower edge of the front. It is illustrated with a photograph of two small girls with some balance weighing scales. A previous owner's name is pencilled on the fep. Internally the book is clean, bright and tightly bound. It is illustrated with black and white photographs. The subtitle to the book is "A Practical approach to Infant Number Work". This title was first published in 1939 by the University of London Press, this is the seventh impression published in 1956. This book describes what has been done in place of formal Arithmetic in two normal Infant schools with large classes. The method here outlined in one which:-
1. Develops that self-confidence which is so much more important than mechanical skills.
2. Prevents that sense of failure which is engendered by the repeated inability to get the required number of sums right, and which is a very real reason for the presence of many a child in the "C" stream of the Senior School.
