Enzymes

£14.99

Product description

"In the five years since the first edition of this book was written a good deal has happened in the field of enzymology. Over 170 new enzymes have been recognized, and there have been considerable advances in many parts of the subject in other ways.

Perhaps the major event has been the publication of the report of the Commission on Enzymes of the International Union of Biochemistry, which has done much to bring order into a previously confused nomenclature and has put forward a system of mathematical symbols to be used in the equations of enzyme kinetics. In this edition the Commission's recommendations have been followed throughout. This has involved a considerable amount of revision. The systematic Enzyme List of the Commission has been included, with additions to bring it up to date.

The general form of the first edition has been retained, with some rearrangement, but the material has been completely revised and many parts have been rewritten. A great deal of new material has been incorporated, notably a section on general enzyme kinetics; a chapter on enzyme classification; new sections on enzyme mechanics; a long section on the mechanism of the biosynthesis of enzymes, its genetic control and regulation by induction, feed back inhibition and repression; and expanded tables of metabolic enzyme systems."

Book pages are in very good condition, with a little dirt at the edges. Red hardback cover has slight scuff marks at corners and top and bottom of the spine, but is otherwise in very good condition. Dust jacket is a bit dirty and has a number of tears particularly along the bottom edge; the book price has been removed.
