In search of certainty

£15.00

Product description

Our planet's information systems have now reached a level of scale and complexity at which we can no longer simply decide how they will behave. They are so sophisticated and interconnected that humans can neither steer nor comprehend them with certainty. Can we trust such an infrastructure to society? In this book, Mark Burgess explains how far we have come in our understanding of systems, and whether we have the necessary knowledge to prevent them spiralling out of control. 'In Search of Certainty' takes the reader on a fascinating journey from the beginnings of scientific thought to our present day, laying out key challenges for the future, and suggests a daring new way to think about the governance of the vast cybernetic organism we are in the process of creating.

Good condition, like as new. No staining, no creases on spine. Very slight curling on top right-hand corner pages.

Oxfam Bookshop Hexham

We relocated in January 2016 to larger premises and are now able to offer a wider range of books and music (you can come and check out your musical choices in our listening booth and also find out a lot more about Oxfam's work.). We have a new local interest section, more space for history and have extended our craft and arts offer.  We also sell cards, fair trade food and ethical cleaning and beauty products.

Hexham is a market town situated in the beautiful Tyne Valley - the ideal stopping off point before exploring Hadrian's Wall, Chesters, Housesteads and the Temple of Mithras at Carrawburgh.
