Previous owner's name place and date written neatly in ink on front free endpaper. 172pp, including Appendices and Index. With frontispiece and numerous b/w photographs and illustrations by David Bygott throughout the book. The author studied the eider through its complete life cycle. during two expeditions to the remote Canadian Artic. For weeks on end he lived the part of a mother eider duck, he succeeded in imprinting ducklings in a controlled way in the wild. He collected eider eggs, incubated, hatched and reared the ducklings successfully, and while doing so made many discoveries about their hatching, language and general behaviour.
