Introduction to Extremum Principles

£14.99

Product description

Publication date: 1969. Condition: Very good. corners. Internally the previous owner's name has been inked on the front endpaper - otherwise the book is in very good condition - clean, tight and unmarked.

"The early chapters of this book develop the use of the methods of potential and complementary energy by application to simple problems which are first solved directly and then by use of energy methods. The aim of these chapters is that their study should gradually introduce the reader to the fundamental principles of energy methods, whose understanding requires development of the facility.....of distinguishing between, and concentrating in turn on, equations of statics and equations of geometry.....Later chapters present applications of the use of energy methods in the analysis of plane stress, the bending of plates, structural instability, and vibrations. Again, the treatment is intended to encourage first the visualization of the problem, and then a fundamental understanding of how the energy principles work."
