Product description

Purple cloth covered book with gilt titles on the spine and an illustration of a sower on the front cover also in gilt. Both the front and rear covers are embossed. All the corners are lightly bumped. The spine is sunned. The page edges are grubby. Inside the front and rear covers the lining and end papers are acid yellow. A previous owner's name is written in pencil inside the front cover and beneath it there is a small blue and white sticker with the initials H and F on it. The frontispiece is an etching of a rural scene. There are no other illustrations. The full title of the book is "Ploughing and Sowing; or, Annals of an Evening School in a Yorkshire Village, and the Work That Grew Out of It." It also states that the text was taken from letters and private notes by a clergyman's daughter and edited by the Rev. F. Digby Legard, late scholar of University College, Oxford.
