Structure of Molecules and the Chemical Bond

£9.99

Product description

Butterworths Scientific Publications, London, 1950, first edition thus, hardback, no dust jacket, 4to, pp ix + 509.
During the 1930s and 1940s, knowledge of the structure and properties of atoms and molecules was increased considerably by the progress made in both the theoretical and experimental methods of approach to the problems involved. The introduction of wave mechanics permitted the development of theories of atomic and molecular structure which placed on a theoretical basis such fundamental concepts as the spatial configuration of atomic orbitals , the nature and directional characteristics of bonds between atoms in molecules and the mechanisms of chemical reactions. This book draws on the understanding of wave mechanics half way through the twentieth century to explore molecular structure and the nature of the chemical bond from both the theoretical and experimental perspective. It is based on the Russian edition published in 1946 with revisions reflecting advances in the intervening years.
Good- condition. Black cloth boards with gilt lettering and design to spine. Dents to spine and rear board (see photos). Dent on rear board has cracked the cardboard. Otherwise boards show just some bumping and shelfwear. Pages are clean but tanned. Tanning most obvious on endpapers. Library stamp and ownership inscription on ffep (see photo).

Oxfam Books & Music Jesmond

We are a specialist shop nestled in the heart of Jesmond, a lovely residential area of Newcastle Upon Tyne. We opened in July 2010 and have on offer 5,000 books, 2,000 records, CDs and games as well as sheet music, cards and stationery within the shop. Our shop has high ceilings and a nice, bright and airy feel. We are gaining a very good reputation in the Rare and Collectable books and vinyl community, but also do a roaring trade in contemporary fiction and modern non-fiction. We also organise live music and book events and aim to be a hub of culture in this wonderfully tight-knit community.
