These two volumes relate to the work of a group of 70 scientists from all over the world who visited the Himalayan mountains in 1980 to conduct a series of inter-related studies.The idea was to make a study of the world's most unstable landforms and the related natural phenomena, such as earthquakes, avalanches, extreme weather etc.

The project included trial runs of new technology in the area of glaciology, seismology, geomorphology, geology and other disciplines.

The project was promoted as part of the celebration of the 150th. anniversary of the founding of the Royal Geographical Society.

Volume 1 describes techniques, systems, instrumentation etc. Volume 2 covers the results obtained by the Project.

Both volumes 17 x 25 cm. hardbacks, no jackets. Volume 1 has 412 pages; volume 2 has 634 pages. Numerous b/w photos, charts, diagrams, drawings illustrative of the highly detailed and researched text.
