Being Or Good?: Metamorphoses Of Neoplatonism

£24.99

Product description

The conference "Being or Good? Metamorphoses of Neoplatonism" was held in October 2003 at the Catholic University of Lublin owing to efforts and support of a number of institutes. The team of collaborators included the chair of History of Ancient and Medieval Philosophy, the Inter-Faculty Institute for the study of Culture in the Middle Ages, all three based at KUL, and also the Lublin Department of Polish Academy of Sciences. Two major international academic societies took the conference under their patronage, namely International Society for Neoplatonic studies (ISNS) and Societe Internationale pour Etudes de la Philosophie Medievale(S.I.E.P.M.). Professor David Luscombe from Sheffield University, who chaired the last named society in the years 19997 - 2002 was among the guests at the conference, and the society's bulletin has already published a report from the debate. Much as we regret it, the proceedings of the conferences we publish in this volume do not include all the interesting papers that were read during the four sessions of the meeting. On the other hand we have been able to include two papers that were scheduled for the debates, yet their authors were unable to come and deliver them themselves. The editors do hope, however, that the present volume will be able to fulfil the roles they have assigned to it. One of them is to provide information on what is being done worldwide in the area of Neoplatonic studies. Another is to present the work done by polish scholars in this field and thus contribute to to a fruitful exchange between centres of study in this country and scholars all over the world. It is to facilitate the last named objective that we decided to publish the contribution in the languages they were presented. We hope that this publication will find its readers both in Poland and abroad and that it will be instrumental in stimulating more research work.

A paperback book in very good condition with little to no shelf wear and crisp pages.
