Translated and with an introduction by Howard Lee Nostrand. Ortega y Gasset was a Spanish teacher, essayist, publisher-editor, philosopher and statesman, working during the first half of the 20th century while Spain oscillated between monarchy, republicanism and dictatorship. He was, along with Nietzsche, a proponent of the idea of perspectivism, which was pioneered in European thought by Immanuel Kant.
This work, first published in 1946, is developed from a lecture that he gave in Madrid on the theme of the reform of higher education.
