The first race was in 1924 and since then many legendary horses have been associated with the race - amongst them Easter Hero, Golden Miller, Arkle, Mill House. All the great names of steeplechasing of the last sixty years come into the story, from the legendary owner Dorothy Paget to the brilliant young trainer Michael Dickinson who saddles the first five in the 1983 race.
