The Windfall Yachts: A Legacy of Goodwill

£29.99

Product description

Used, very good condition. Small stain on inside cover but otherwise internally clean and bright. Tight binding. Minimal shelf wear.

This is an unusual story, unique in our maritime history and not told before. It is about a large fleet of ex German yachts mainly built in the 1930s and taken over by occupying forces in 1945. Many were then sailed to england and formed the core of post war services offshore sailing before branching out into a wider outside world. The yachts were appropriately called Windfalls, a name which continues to this day. A surprising number are still sailing, as classic boats. More are languishing under covers while just a few have known graves. Others have simply disappeared. To the author, like so many have started offshore sailing in Windfalls and also with an interest in maritime history, it seemed an appropriate subject to research. there would be plenty of records and it should not be too difficult. Having a maritime background in the Royal Navy here was a chance to put something back, for charity.
