The Outer Hebrides - The Timeless Way

£17.99

Product description

Very good like new condition with little to no wear.

"I walked from Tabert to Rhenigidale Youth Hostel little aware of the significance of the route. The path was about three feet wide, well constructed with pebbles and small rocks but disappeared when it crossed slabs of rock. It took me through a hauntingly beautiful gaunt rocky mountainous landscape. Little did I realise that I was using the path in the timeless way, the way that countless generations of islanders has used the path. This path was Rhenigidale's lifeline. The alternative route was by sea from Scalpay or Tarbert. The postman walked out and back three times a week. The Hostel warden went to Tarbert for a drink at the Harris Hotel and walked back in the dark after the bar closed. During my five nights at the Hostel I heard stories of youthful hostellers with rucksacks being passed by sprightly seventy year old women carrying shopping bags".
