Oxfam's Book Barn

Book barn intro

The Book Barn in Huddersfield takes in around 20,000 books every day, and makes cash from them in ways you might not expect. We don’t just sort and send on to our shops, we also sell them through auction, ABE, eBay, Amazon and on our very own online shop – whichever is the best market for the book and raises the most money to fight poverty and injustice all over the world. We’ll make sure that every book has a happy ending.

Our sophisticated software can instantly tell us which books are worth selling on and which are not. If not, they still have a happy ending, because we send them to be pulped. Every last page is mulched and re-cycled – making bookstands, benches and boxes to be loved all over again.

Now you know each book you donate will turn pages into wages for teachers and health care workers and books into cooks’ ingredients to feed the world’s poorest people, give all you can. Turn the page on poverty. Close the chapter on injustice. Turn your fiction into action today.
