Try a Scarf waistband to tie them up
Add piping cord or buttons down the leg seams
Add Patches & Tears for the worn look
Cut out the denim and & some lace or funky fabric

Cut off waistband and discard.

Using a machine or hand stitching, sew one long edge of the scarf along the top edge of the jeans or trousers where the waist band was. Leave enough length either end to tie together as a fastening – approximately 25 cm at each end. It’s better to have too much and then cut to fit once you have finished sewing.

PIPING: Using a tape measure, measure from below the waist to the bottom. Cut two lengths of piping cord, ribbon or braid (available from haberdashers, department stores and from on line sites) and attach by hand sewing or gluing with fabric glue. If you opt for the glue method a few hand stitches at either end and near the knee would be advisable.

BUTTONS: Choose your buttons. Calculate the length of the leg and then divide by the number of buttons you have minus one – this will give you equal spacing between the buttons. Stitch each button by hand, following the seam of the leg

PATCHES: Take some fabric of your choice (denim or something unusual). Hand-sew or glue on.

TEARS: Try rubbing the denim with household objects such as a grater to create that aged look. Slowly pick at the worn patches with a needle or a fork to pull away at the fabric and make it look more worn in.

Cut out all the denim, front and back, leaving side seams as the framework. Lay the cut out denim (now your pattern) on top of your fabric of choice, pin on to fabric and then cut around remembering to leave an inch extra around the edge for sewing. Pin new fabric pattern pieces back where the original pieces were, underneath the denim (eg inside the trouser leg) and overlap under the denim framework. Hand stitch the pieces in place making sure that you don’t stitch the legs together!
