Caring for your sterling silver jewellery

We hope you love our range of silver jewellery, and you have found something that you will cherish for years to come.

It is normal for sterling silver to tarnish over time, but there are certain things that can accelerate the tarnishing process, and these should be avoided where possible. Here are some simple steps you can take to help keep your jewellery in pristine condition for longer:

  1. Remove jewellery before showering, bathing, swimming or exercising, as cleaning products, chlorine and sweat can all accelerate the tarnishing process.
  2. Avoid contact with cosmetic products such as perfume, hair spray, body lotion, makeup and deodorant, as these products can all cause damage to silver and cause it to tarnish more quickly.
  3. Clean your jewellery regularly by rubbing it gently with a soft cotton cloth. We do not recommend the use of silver dip as this can cause damage to the silver. For more stubborn tarnish, or to clean parts that can’t be reached with a cloth, you can clean your jewellery using mild soapy water and a soft brush (such as an old toothbrush). Make sure you rinse it in warm water before leaving it to dry.
  4. If storing silver jewellery for a long period of time, clean it first to remove any dirt that may have built up whilst wearing it. Wrap it in soft fabric or store in an airtight bag, and keep it away from wood, wool, felt, rubber and coins, as these products can all speed up the tarnishing process.
