Oxfam really is the place for conscientious shoppers. As well as the Fairtrade food products we stock, there is a huge range of gifts, homeware, stationery and fashion all of which have been sourced in line with Oxfam’s Ethical Purchasing Policy. This means that we are working hard to eliminate the abuse and exploitation of anyone in our supply chain.
FAIRTRADE and Fair Trade
Oxfam sells Fair Trade products that we have defined in one of 2 ways.
The best known are those certified by the Fairtrade Labelling Organisation (FLO), usually used for commodities such as tea, coffee, and cocoa products. These products carry the FAIRTRADE Mark and are described as FAIRTRADE. Check out our Oxfam t-shirts made from FAIRTRADE certified cotton.
The second are purchased from producers who are members of The World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO, a global network of Fair Trade organizations . Products sourced from WFTO members are described as Fair Trade. We’ve got loads of Fair Trade products for sale online – try our range of bags and purses.
Recycled
Recycling is a fantastic way to reduce the consumption of limited resources and lessen the impact of production on the environment. Our Ethical Collection includes a variety of innovative recycled items, from the Black Leather Handbag designed by Laura Queening and made from unwanted leather jackets donated to Oxfam, to our Ellie Poo stationery made from recycled… you’ve guessed it, elephant dung!
Energy efficient
Climate change is a huge issue, and is already having a disproportionate effect on the poorest communities around the world. Our range of gadgets has been selected because each one reduces the need for energy produced from burning fossil fuels. Solutions include wind-up lanterns, solar powered battery chargers, and even a water powered clock – all of which help to raise awareness of this critical issue.
The Oxfam difference
Whatever you buy from Oxfam, 100% of the profits will be dedicated to fighting poverty. From developing projects that put poor people in charge of their lives and livelihoods, to putting pressure on world leaders for real lasting change, your custom could make a real difference.
