What is Oxfam Unwrapped?
Oxfam Unwrapped is a range of great charity gifts. Since 2004, thanks to people like you buying gifts for your nearest and dearest, Oxfam Unwrapped has raised over £60 million for projects improving the livelihoods, health and education of people all across the world.
This year we have over 50 special charity gifts, plus 9 gorgeous gift sets, that will create big smiles for anyone receiving them, and make a lasting difference for the people that really need it.
Can I find out more about the people/projects my Oxfam Unwrapped gifts have funded?
Of course, you can read examples of our success stories here.
In our new calendar this year, which you can add to your order when you buy any gift, you can also read 12 inspiring stories from people whose lives have changed thanks to Oxfam Unwrapped gifts.
We’ve also got online case studies so you can find out how Oxfam Unwrapped gifts have helped three individuals from around the world.

What do we/my recipient get if we purchase an Oxfam Unwrapped gift?
Gift Cards and E-cards
When you buy an Oxfam Unwrapped charity gift, we’ll send you or your friend or family member their gift card. Each gift card features a story about how your gift is helping people.. This can be delivered to you to pass on in person, or sent directly to your friend or family member. You can choose a gift card that features a picture of your chosen gift or you can change the image to suit a special occasion (we have 11 occasion cards to choose from). You can even add a personalised message to be printed inside.
We also have an alternative to a printed card: the ‘e-card’, an electronic version of your chosen gift card. By choosing to send an ecard, will go further and you’ll be helping the planet too! These can be sent direct to you or whoever you’re buying for.
Or you can choose the belt and braces approach and chose an e-card and a printed card!
If you buy any of our gift sets, we will send you the gift and the gift card at the same time.
I’ve seen there are ‘Special edition’ gifts this year – what is different about these gifts?
We have two special edition gifts this year, ‘Food Boost’ and ‘Nicer Rice’; both designed to help keep people fed. At a time when 1 in 7 people are going to bed hungry these gifts are a brilliant way to make a difference
‘Food boost’ helps to boost the skills and crop yields of small scale farmers. You’ll be helping to put food on the table and lift communities out of trouble. You can also turn your ‘Food boost’ gift into a gift set, by adding our Herb GroBox.
We’ve also got ‘Nicer rice’ which comes with a free recipe booked filled with authentic recipes from around the world. This gift works with local rice farmers to improve irrigation and farming methods so they can grow more to feed themselves and to sell.
Both of these special editions tie into our GROW campaign, which aims to fix the global food system, which currently leaves 1 billion people without enough food to feed themselves and their families. Find out more about the GROW campaign here: www.oxfam.org.uk/grow

Can I buy a Little extra or a Gift set if I haven’t bought an Oxfam Unwrapped gift?
No, you’ll have to buy an Oxfam Unwrapped gift if you want to buy one of our Little extras. You’ll also have to buy the Oxfam Unwrapped gift that the Gift set is associated with, but you can add multiple Little extras to any of our Oxfam Unwrapped gifts.
I’ve seen QR codes in your new catalogue – what are they?
This year we’ve got QR codes which allow people with smartphones to scan the barcode to find out how that gift is changing people’s lives. You’ll need to download the barcode scanner app though.
Can you send me a catalogue?
Yes, you just need to complete your details on our request a catalogue form and this will be despatched by first class post within three working days. The catalogue contains the majority of the Oxfam Unwrapped charity gifts, but the full range of gifts can be browsed online.
How will you spend my money?
You can tell which type of project your gift will support from the last two letters of the gift code. For example, the Build a bog gift code is OU5008WS. WS stands for Water & Sanitation projects.
All the money from gifts with a Water and Sanitation code will only be spent on our water & sanitation projects. So the money you pay to buy a Build a bog gift will not be used to ‘Teach a teacher’, but is could end up as ‘Safe water’.
Why do we do this?
Honestly? Because we can’t predict what’s around the corner. Having this flexibility helps us to respond most effectively in changing situations. We may have planned to fix a well but due to changing circumstances, it may be more appropriate to provide a water tank.
Whatever gift you decide to buy, we’ll ensure it gets to the people that need it the most.
Read more about how we spend your money here.
When I bought my Oxfam Unwrapped gift I was offered the option for Oxfam to use my money to fund ‘any part of its work’ - what is this and why do you offer it?
A significant number of our supporters enjoy the fun and unusual nature of Oxfam Unwrapped gifts, but want to maximise the value of their charity gift. By offering this option we enable those people to allow Oxfam to spend the money for any purpose, rather than the specific gift they choose. This flexibility really helps us meet unexpected demands caused by a natural disaster, like a flood or earthquake.
However, we are grateful for the support of all of our supporters and we do understand if you'd prefer not to take this option. Whatever decision you make, your make a real difference to real people all over the world.
What is included in the price of my Oxfam Unwrapped gift?
The price of an Oxfam Unwrapped gift includes everything needed to deliver the gift and ensure it can be used as effectively as possible – from the item itself, to transport, training and support, plus up to ten percent to cover local running costs. We also include the costs of running Oxfam Unwrapped, such as producing our catalogue and maintaining our website.
How do you choose the Oxfam Unwrapped gifts that are sold and how do you price them?
We design our Oxfam Unwrapped catalogue around the needs of the communities who we work with, and all the gifts have been identified as essential by these communities. The prices of the gifts are based on examples of the costs of buying the items around the world. The price includes the costs associated with delivering and maintaining the item or service. For example the price of a goat includes transport for the animal to reach its destination, vaccinations, training contribution towards salaries of essential staff such as, a project coordinator, market awareness training and the costs of running Oxfam Unwrapped.
Can I choose the country that my Oxfam Unwrapped gift will be used in?
Your gift plays a part in a larger project, so unfortunately you cannot choose the country that your Oxfam Unwrapped gift is used in. This ensures the money we raise from Oxfam Unwrapped is flexible enough to support people where the need is the greatest.
Can I make a gift in memory of someone?
It’s really lovely to hear that wish to buy a gift in memory of someone through Oxfam Unwrapped. Unfortunately we are unable to name a gift after someone, simply because we cannot say directly whereabouts your gift will go, as it is part of a larger project. What we could do is enter the details of the person you’re buying the gift for into our 'In Memory' book which we have here at Oxfam Head Office. We can also send a personalised thank you letter and certificate to show what a meaningful gift this is as a lasting reminder.
