The Oxfam Curiosity Shop & auction is now closed
Following last year’s incredible success, the Oxfam Curiosity Shop opened its doors this year from 1 – 10 April.
The shop was once again created and stocked by a team of high profile personalities led by Annie Lennox and Whistles CEO Jane Shepherdson and sold celebrity fashion donations, sought after samples and vintage clothing hand-picked from our 700 shops.
How much did it raise?
This year, the Oxfam Curiosity Shop, the On-line Auction at Selfridges.com and the Celebrity auction raised an amazing £280,000 – nearly 30% more than in 2010! 100% of the money raised will go to Oxfam Circle projects; helping to provide essential healthcare, schooling and much more, to women living in poverty.
Oxfam Curiosity Shop Highlights
The online auction featured 24 of the hottest pieces donated to us by our supportive celebrities and fashion houses, including Colin Firth’s Aquascutum overcoat, Annie Lennox’s Alexander McQueen gown and Livia Firth’s ‘Green Carpet Challenge’ dresses. You can see all the pieces and how much they were auctioned for, here.
Livia Firth’s aquamarine and diamond earrings that she wore to the Oscars were auctioned for £25,000 at the launch party Celebrity Auction.
We teamed up with Tales of Things to create QR code tags for many of the celebrity donations. Visitors to the Curiosity Shop could then view these stories on their own Smartphones or use one of the bespoke RFID readers to scan the tag and reveal the story behind the item, literally bringing it to life.
Style Sessions Challenge
Some of the Fashion world’s top stylists, journalists and bloggers popped down to the Oxfam Curiosity Shop to take part in the Oxfam Style Sessions Challenge!
Brix Smith Start (Channel 4’s Gok’s Fashion Fix), the Guardian Fashion team, Liberty London Girl and many more re-created some of the season’s key looks and trends all from items that were being sold at the Oxfam Curiosity Shop. All the looks were featured on the Oxfam Fashion blog and Oxfam Fashion twitter and customers and fashion enthusiasts were asked to vote for their favourite. You can view all the final looks, here
The winner was Liberty London Girl who created a fabulous 1970s look with a long sleeved floral vintage dress (£40)
Thank you to everyone who was involved with the Oxfam Curiosity Shop this year, and to everyone who bid, bought and visited us throughout the ten days. All the money raised will fund Oxfam projects around the world that support and empower vulnerable women.
