Protect the forest
Protect the forest

This gift funds the fight to protect the world’s woodlands and their people. Providing education, training and workshops helps raise awareness of land rights and climate change, which means communities can defend their homes and livelihoods.

In Colombia, Oxfam Unwrapped has provided education, workshops and technological support to help people make agricultural processes more environmentally friendly and so protect the forest, soil and water quality.

Oxfam provided more than 75 training and awareness days on sustainability and environmental awareness, such as soil fertility, water quality and forest conservation. To further help participants protect forests in their region, Oxfam helped fund alternative energy sources, such as energy efficient ovens and biodigestors.

As a result, families involved in the project have adopted a more conservationist approach to the environment.

Wilfram Ruíz from Peña Blanca village in Rosas-Cauca says: "With the support from Oxfam and [a local partner organisation] we continue progressing and making way to improve our farms, our lives, keeping our traditions and defending our land. We have been able to stay in our land thanks to our persistence, growing our vegetables gardens, raising animals (laying hens), protecting our forests and water sources, and bringing our magic ancient stories to life, that way this big home of the mountains of this part of the Andes will always exist!"
