This gift supports eco-experts who campaign to raise awareness of environmental issues such as climate change and forest management at home and abroad. This is a brand new gift for Oxfam Unwrapped this year, however Oxfam already knows how important it is to campaign to raise awareness of environmental issues.

Climate change has a devastating effect on communities throughout the world. It has led to an increase in the number of droughts and floods that have had a devastating impact on people’s lives across the globe. Climate change leads to people losing their homes, crops and livestock. For example, Cambodia is highly vulnerable to the effects of climate change - such as flooding and drought - because a large number of poeple depend on climate-sensitive livelihoods such as agriculture, fishing and raising livestock.

In Cambodia, Oxfam have trained local people how to minimise the impact of climate change and how to lobby local government to help reduce its effects. Oxfam have supported communities to form water committees, which have lobbied their local authority to take climate change into account. It is important that local people have a say in government climate-change adaptation plans as they have first hand knowledge of climate change and it’s impacts.
