This gift helps coffee farmers earn more from their beans by giving them the tools and training to scale up their production, plus the marketing skills to get a better price for their produce.

This is a brand new gift for Oxfam Unwrapped this year, however Oxfam already knows how successful supporting coffee farmers can be, for example in Ethiopia where Oxfam has worked with smallholders in the Oromiya region.

Oxfam helped farmers improve coffee production by training them in bio-diversity conservation and by providing coffee seedlings. In some areas, Oxfam helped farmers produce organic coffee, for example by promoting organic pest control techniques and by training smallholders to meet standards for organic certification.

Oxfam has also helped farmers get a better price for their crops by encouraging them to form cooperatives, which increases their bargaining power. Women play a big part in running the cooperatives and taking part in decision-making, which improves their social status and gives them more power in their work and home lives.
